TomTec Takes Away
the 2005 Frost & Sullivan Technology Innovation Award
Date : Wednesday -
March 02, 2005
LONDON, March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- In recognition of its pioneering 4D
LV-Analysis CRT(c), TomTec Imaging Systems GmbH has been selected as
the recipient of the 2005 Frost & Sullivan Technology
Innovation Award for the European 3D/4D ultrasound imaging market.
"Based on its imaging platforms, Image-Arena(TM) and
Research-Arena(TM), TomTec developed clinical application packages
(CAPs) and has offered a variety of 2D and 3D/4D ultrasound-oriented
packages including Cardio-View(c), Echo-View(c) and Stress Echo," notes
Technical Insights Industry Analyst Giridhar Rao from Frost &
Sullivan. "Acknowledging the profound impact that these platforms are
set to have on the diagnostic imaging sector, TomTec has been selected
as the recipient of this award."
The latest addition to the CAP portfolio is the 4D left ventricular
(LV) Analysis CRT(c), which was expressly developed for cardiac
resynchronization therapy (CRT). In this system, a model of the LV is
generated using 3D datasets, and the model is subdivided into
volumetric elements. A colour-coded display of the contraction pattern
of ventricles can help medical professionals mark the volumetric
changes and timings of the contractions.

4D LV-Analysis CRT(c) is more accurate and reproducible compared to
conventional 2D technology and it has the ability to better select the
appropriate patient groups for CRT, resulting in greater efficiency and
cost savings.
Using new technologies of Real-time 3D ultrasound systems combined with
endocardial border tracking algorithms results in fairly short
examination times. Since heart failure is a major cause of mortality,
morbidity and hospitalisation and is also extremely expensive to cure,
TomTec's technology is expected to be a sure winner for the ability to
reduce all four concerns.
The company is working hard with key clinical partners to set up the
requisite clinical norms. Its current research aims to establish its 4D
LV Analysis CRT(c) as a diagnostic tool for CRT. "TomTec anticipates
this technology to become a part of the clinical routine and decision
making process," observes Rao. "In fact, the company is working on a
list of new applications in the field of 3D/4D Ultrasound."
