New 4D Ultrasound at Englewood
Delivers Real-Time View of Baby

of their fetus in motion. The “live-action” motion
adds the “fourth dimension.
Englewood Hospital and Medical Center welcomes a new addition to its
Antepartum Testing Center - a new 4D ultrasound
technology. The latest in ultrasound
equipment, it provides three-dimensional views of a baby
inside the womb with a fourth dimension of time that shows "live
action" movement. The new diagnostic technology enables physicians to
better analyze fetal behavior and development as early as eight weeks.
“The new ultrasound machine provides an important
complementary technique to 2-D sonography,” said Faith
Frieden, MD, Chief of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
“Three and 4D
ultrasound can enhance the prenatal characterization of
certain congenital defects, which may be helpful in counseling parents.
It also allows us to observe fetal behavior in a new and exciting
way.” The 4D technology
will enable a pregnant woman to see her baby move and stretch and even
make facial expressions.
The
Antepartum Testing Center
The Antepartum Testing Center at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center
features a highly specialized team of board-certified Maternal-Fetal
Medicine specialists and registered perinatal sonographers, and a
certified genetic counselor. In addition, through our affiliation with
the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, board certified Pediatric
Cardiologists provide fetal echocardiography. The Center has had
national accreditation by the Ultrasound Practice Council of the
American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) since 1999. This
recognition comes after a successful assessment of the Medical
Center’s ultrasound practice and ultimately reassures
patients that they will receive the highest standard of care by a
highly trained medical staff.
